Do these rappers realize they can make more money by not playing up to the ignorant stereotypical c00n role than not? Why do we feel like we need to lower ourselves for $$$$? Just stop. We need more kendricks, coles, men of character who about something, less young c00ns.

"But you want a shytty character move? You want to know what low, grimy motherfukker Travis Scott is? Late one night, we were all down in the Dungeon, up late, having a party. Music was playing, we were all having fun… and then I did what all epileptic people do from time to time: I had a seizure. You know what Travis Scott did? He left. He and his friend Tony left me. I eventually ended up at the hospital that night, but Travis couldn’t be bothered."

:scust:If this is true, i'm finna call dis nikka Scumbag $cott from now on.:pacspit:

Wouldn't even wish that upon my worst enemy.

This is literally one of the worst, most irresponsible pieces I've ever seen. To try to parallel being arguably "unoriginal" to cultural appropriation...to be a white guy doing it...bad journalism. Nothing he highlighted about Scott makes him worse than Iggy and:

Scott's ability to take the music they grew up on (like Kanye and Cudi), mix in newer artists they already like (Drake and Kendrick), and breathe an all new vitality to it by adding the energy of the underground Southern rap many of them were ideologically opposed to back during the Great Backpacker Wars of the early 'aughts.

Does that sound like it would be in a hit piece or an article praising his ingenuity? And no, I don't even listen to Travis Scott, but from what I've always heard the journalist had better ammo to use then the unfounded, naive points he made if he wanted to shyt on him...especially saying he's worse than a white artist who's mocking blackness and being entitled about it.

Expected more from Deadspin. Whatever editor let him get away with mentioning Iggy but then giving a pisspoor analysis of people's problem with her is trippin

EDIT: And again, ever since Travis Scott jumped on the Respectability train when he mentioned Mike Brown I haven't cared for him, but that doesn't excuse shytty journalism.

author comes off like a butthurt young thug fan. The lack of backlash against Travis Scott is that much of a mystery, ...he isn't that big yet. He's doing well but he hasn't had nearly as much success or push as Iggy. So why was she even mentioned in this article?

He didn't do a good job of explaining, what exactly Scott is doing that's so awful.

Author comes off a bit butthurt....

This part was on the money though.

This has long been a reality in the blog-dominant rap world, where savvy labels and managers cynically do their best to play that hype cycle against itself. Through ad-buying or outright bribery, get your artist in good with one blog, which leads to another blog thinking that artist is important and scrambling to keep up, and on and on until the echo chamber has turned a faint PR-driven hum into a full-on, quasi-organic buzz. No matter that none of it was built on any genuine fan interest; all that matters is that the right people say this artists matters, and voila, it becomes so.

But honestly, I like Days Before Rodeo's music, but I ultimately dont fukk with dude because its clear as day that hes faking it. People used to get checked for this shyt. He grew up rich and flourished because of his connections. Theres nothing wrong with that if the genuine talent is there. Maybe it is, too early to tell, hes a young dude and seems very concerned with yelling ratchet-y adlibs and convincing us he's in the trap, but then its the indie/alt publications that seem to really be putting him out there. Nothing special or unique, except a few droning synths here n there

Lame shyt if you ask me. Too much behind the scenes manuvering going on

Most of his listeners consider themselves committed fans of hip-hop; they're the very people who should know the tenets of hip hop and enforce them. Instead, they're lured in by Scott's ability to take the music they grew up on (like Kanye and Cudi), mix in newer artists they already like (Drake and Kendrick), and breathe an all new vitality to it by adding the energy of the underground Southern rap many of them were ideologically opposed to back during the Great Backpacker Wars of the early 'aughts. These are the same type of people who would decry the violence of Chief Keef, ridicule Young Thug's "nonsensical" verses, and laugh at anyone who considered Gucci Mane lyrical ... yet they turn around and bump Days Before Rodeo without a second thought.

Damn. This is pretty on-point too. Very good overall critique of Travis Scott and his hypebeast fanbase, but also a spotlight on how distorted the term "hip-hop head" is these days
