‘Transcendence’ Tanks for Johnny Depp's 4th Box-Office Flop in Row

I want to shyt on Depp cuz Public Enemies was trash too and I was very hype for that movie. But the sad fact we need to realize is that like 80% of all mainstream films are mediocre to trash. So in effect all film actors are

He just hasn't been choosing good parts lately. He needs to hook up with talented directors again. Although, Michael Mann was a pretty good director and public enemies was terrible. The digital film Mann used was fukking weird looking.

Robert Downey Jr played the coked up weirdo friend in damn near all of his 80s movies. Now he's playing the ex-cokehead roles. Johnny Depp plays an eccentric type. They both do over-the-top roles.

Iton Man is not popular, but he is a B or C list character in the Marvel Universe? So if you are not an A list character you are not popular? How did the Avengers make money then, it is comprised of nothing but B list characters in the marvel universe.

These people know nothing about the character and nothing about the actor, yet they somehow got a director in John Favreau who completely nailed the entire marvel and Iron Man universe and feel, and got RDJ, who is now so synonymous with being Iron Man that he was able to renegotiate his deal with the studio for back end points on the movie, very difficult to do, and even get the others actors some more money in the next avengers movie, nigh impossible to do. Also, these guys came up with the marvel movie formula...literally ever marvel movie after Iron Man has followed the format, setting, and tone, of Iron Man, outside of the X men movies which are a world unto themselves.

So somehow Iron Man was not popular, somehow RDJ was a nobody, somehow the studio had no idea what they were doing, and somehow in spite of all of that they got lucky and made a ton of money on a movie that they have built a mulit billion universe out of, where other studios have been failing epically at it forever...ok

Dr Strange is popular? When...Where? Show me some Doctor Strange comic books that sold a ton. Show me the ratings for the Dr. Strange show. Show me something that Doctor Strange did that sold me than something that Iron Man did. If Iron Man is B/C list Strange has to be down in J's and K's.

The characters popularity is the only thing that matters. People went to see Iron Man because it was Iron Man, a recognizable star. People went to see Batman Begins because Batman is a recognizable star. Dr. Strange is recognizable? If you went outside right now wit ha picture of Doctor Strange and asked people "who is this" you telling me the majority are going to say "Easy, that's Doctor Strange?" You need a borderline major star to sell this movie.

Dude, I think most people went to see Iron Man because they'd heard the name before, and the advertising for it was really good. The movie looked good, and it turned out it was. Iron Man was never a huge American icon or anything. It was never bound to sell a great amount on name recognition alone like it was Spidey.

I disagree, just saw this movie, it was incredibly thought provoking. I can't believe it rated so bad. But it's definitely not a movie for the bread and circuses crowd. Nikkaz talkin' about he should have passed this up for a comic book flick I am glad I am not a part of this generation.

concept was dope but depp was fukkin horrible and showed no emotion in the entire flick, its like he cant play the straight man anymore

I don't know, perhaps you're right, I was more focused on the movie than Depp's emotional range. To be frank Johnny Depp has never had great emotional range, even in movie's like Donnie Brasco where you think he would have flipped out more often. To me he's been in a lot of cool thought provoking movies, such as The Tourist , Rum Diary, the Ninth Gate , etc. He's more of a Marlon Brando than an Al Pacino

weird that I recently thought the same thing to myself.

as much as I like him as an actor, he has had a ..."colorful, questionable" film resume.

and as much as he's been putting out lately (I liked "The Lone Ranger") I'll still always check for his movies, I've been a fan for years.
I recently d-loaded "Transcendence" and I'll be watching it soon.
