Every generation expects to achieve more than the one that came before it and for many years, those expectations came true. But a disquieting trend has emerged over the past two decades, as the gap between the richest Canadians and the rest has grown, faster here than in all but one other OECD country, the United States. While inequality is less pronounced in Canada than the U.S., it is headed in the same direction, by several key measures.
The growth in inequality is being driven by an accumulation of wealth among the very top income earners, while the middle class lower income earners continue to stagnate. The richest 1 per cent earned 10.6 per cent of Canada’s income in 2012, down slightly from the pre-recession peak of more than 12 per cent, but up sharply from 7.1 per cent in 1982. The concentration of wealth in this country is also rising: The top 20 per cent control 70 per cent of net worth.

Well, you have to care about the poor, because they don't just disappear. Those people exist. And the more income inequality grows...the motherfukkers that don't think they are poor (like your 50-60-70k a year earner)...actually become poor because they lose purchasing power.
I mean, a government is supposed to serve its people. That doesn't mean pay its population to do nothing. But it also doesn't mean tilting the table to the richest 1% get 95% of the spoils and everyone else has to fend for themselves.
Contrary to bullshyt conservative dogma, you don't just work your way out of your economic class.
Policy has a lot to do with how the economic ladder functions.
like i said it will be like vancouver. the average house in toronto is already more than half a mill and rising, even a 50,60,70k earner without dual income and a big downpayment is priced out Only so much apartments to rent and the average 1bdrm etc. is rising, even the ghetto areas are charing like 900 for a 1bdrm now.
poor will have ot move to scarborough/etobicoke/ajax/oshawa basement apartments
