This has actually been really sad tbh.
It's getting more and more acceptable to have that kind of public behavior and not see consequences nor even be socially shamed.
Society has more and more grown tired of being politically correct. I feel like it's a bell curve and we're on the other side of it now.
edit: If you also want to talk about his advertising dollars, it'll only be so long until nobody would care about offensive language anymore for it to hit companies' pockets. At that point they won't care anymore about it either.

Yes. His fukkup caused pressure cause a powerful group, that need not be named, was offended, and everything else followed suit.
His fukkery made things less "business as usual" and accelerated the conversation about youtube matching ads to questionable videos. It was already a problem
from people using copyrighted material and getting clicks. PewDiePie put objectionable content to the forefront.
Just like how people put pressure on advertisers to drop support for programs they are offended by, this was the watershed moment for independent user content.
