I'm talking from 81-91 who are your favorite old heads?

1) Rakim - The God MC spit too much knowledge and never smiled
2) BDK - The Blueprint for Brooklyn, too smooth for words
3) G-Rap - Lyrical Assassin, King Multi himself
4) Ricky D The Ruler - Epitome of swag and story telling
5) KRS - :krs: enuff said

no one can fukk with this list... unless we count dudes like Cube and Face but I like them in the 90's 2 be honest

KRS @ 1 or 2 and i would put Chuck D in there somewhere. i'm not familiar enough with Melle Mel to put him in there as a real choice, i think most of his MC prowess comes from mixtapes on the block and live performances rather than recorded material so he's more of a "you had to be there" choice no matter how legitimate

dawg,....

when you mentioned melle.
melle mel owns two of greatest records in rap history.

which double as two of the greatest records in industrialized music history as well.
plus one of them is a featured microscopic view into american social/economic climate.
placing it in the library of congress.

namely called the message,...
whereas the second white lines is the best actual rap record ever fukk'n made!

i really can not honor the content of this thread.

as it has no bearing on the segueway from the oldschool to the new school way of thought.

you really can not judge ol school to new school emcees.
as the old school suffered from monopolisitc/capitalistic/materialism based on sort of culturally rudimentary pagan ideals in a hiphop context.

when it came to picking its largest drawing and skilled artist.

whereas the newschool way of thought.

dealt with more pillar skilled content based and minded ideals at its core.

so trying to pick and mix ol school way of thought emcees, in that window of time.

over new school way of though emcees from 81-91,..is a tough task.
you would be better off just asking for a goat list.

or a best ol school top five list, from 74-85 aNd a separate new school top five list from 85-91.

as you really can not kinda judge ol school and new school in that window.

as the content upon which theories of thought they are based.
are firmly and vastly differing from one another in that time period.
while also completely and drastically in stark contrast are juxtaposed from one another.

obviously i know about The Message and White Lines but i don't think that those 2 records ALONE are enough to put him above people like KRS & Rakim who have several classic songs/albums.

Not too ironclad a list...as I could swap out and add a bunch of other names that i think are just as deserving and dig as much
