I don't get the hype around his performance in Godfather 2. He was barely in the movie and when he was he didn't steal any scenes or anything like that. People give him in that movie too much credit.

I agree with you in the context of the other great performances in the first 2 movies, Al, James Caan,Duval and Brando even Cazale were obviously perfect so in that sense his performance was a little overhyped. But I think in terms of capturing the young Vito in so little screen time. he was also perfect, especially if you've read the book.
