Its unsettling that were trending away from what is successful in the league...were trending to non offense all defense 6-8 guys who cant shoot....

Referring to the Athletic (Koreen or Blair) or Postmedia (Wolstat) or SI (Rose). Those guys aren't owned by any entities affiliated with the team. Doug Smith, Michael Grange, and Josh Lewenberg tho are under the Rogers/Bell umbrella.

Overall though, I think y’all are overrating Suggs. He gonna obviously be a good player but he ain’t a franchise altering talent, but more like a good contributor who might make a few all-star games. The jury is still out on Barnes becoming that guy who can be an all star but if we look deeply at it, there is potential there.

Raptors wanna play switch everything, defence to offence transition ball. They also want to have more passing in the offence. Problem is someone still gonna have to cash jumpers or get to the rim.

guess what on defense they gave up more points per game more than 22 other nba teams
defense is overrated, teams are going to score anyways in the modern nba, the key is to outscore them

You gotta be able to get buckets though. The Raptors will always find a way to create enough offence from their D to keep most games close but the last six minutes of the game is where games are won and they’re won by getting buckets. Shiiit against the Celtics two years ago we shut them down in game 7 and shoulda beat them easily if we had just ONE guy show up to get buckets.
Raps hoping FVV/Siakam/OG magically develop an iso game or something.
At best Aaron Gordon without the freak dunking ability.

That wont work in the playoffs...even if thats what you want to do you still go with the best player and its not Barnes...i still hate the fact we drafted a project at 4,you dont take HR swings at 4 you bunt......you take swings in the 20s...
I agree that it won’t work in the playoffs cuz you still have to score. In fact, the most important part of playoff success is late game scoring imo.
As for the 4th pick, though Suggs was my guy at four, I still didn’t have any allusions of him becoming a franchise player which is why I don’t think I’m too upset we passed on him. I was way more upset when we drafted Bargs over Aldridge, Bosh over Wade and Hoffa (ughhh) over Iggy cuz you know the guy you passed on will be way better than the guy you took. I just don’t think there will be a huge difference in career ceiling between Barnes and Suggs. I think they’ll reach the same level of impact albeit doing different things, though it’ll take Barnes longer to get there (if he does).
Another thing that ticks me off did the raptors even reach out to anyone to see if they wanted suggs?
IF Barnes becomes a capable shooter hes likely gonna be the better player,i doubt he will ever be that tho,impossible to say hes ceiling is higher when the biggest contributor to that ceiling is something he sucks at....and is behind the other top 5 guys.
