My point was that Egypt had discovered and created so much even before the Greeks and Romans got there. No matter what it would be idiotic to think that NONE of the Egyptians cumulative knowledge would be in that library. Regardless of who established it and why it was a vast resource of Greek and Egyptian lore.

Take that away and we have questions that are still unanswered to this day. Who knows what coulda been discovered by now

THE EXTENT OF EGYPT'S ACCOMPLISHMENTS IS PRETTY WELL KNOWN BECAUSE OF THEIR PROLIFIC RECORDS, BROTHER! WHAT DO YOU SUSPECT WAS ONLY IN THAT LIBRARY AND LOST, DUDE? THE MYTH THAT HAS SPRUNG UP AROUND THE LIBRARY OF ALEXANDRIA IS FAMOUS, BUT NOT NECESSARILY BASED ON ANY FACTS, BROTHER!

You know Rome was not in the nutsack of Greece right? Egypt was, Library of Alexandria was set up in 323 bc by a student of Aristotle, the whole name is from Alexander the great.

Rome was birth from a mixture of Greek, Etruscan and Trojans depending on who you ask, breh. Their entire culture is based on Greek lore

I agree, but what im say in the knowledge lost in that library was priceless and the work of COUNTLESS lifetimes. This wasn't the time of the printing press fam. A nikka wrote a book and THATS WHERE IT WAS.

1st Round Playoff Exits
I give it up to Caligula for his level of sickness

I actually like Caligula, breh, actually cared about his PR image(the people), he had no qualms about killing off senators or wealthy / rich people.

He's not perfect any means either, sleeping with his sister and humiliating cats, by openly smashing their wives :manny:

Still a pretty interesting follow.

This is a great depiction of his life:

:snoop: you are missing the point....

knowledge or lack there of is just as devastating to a culture or people as loss of life is.

Killing and torture is evil but i still think burning books and destroying culture is the among the most evil can do...it can set entire civilizations back HUNDREDS of years....imagine the world if the Library of Alexandria was still around

life>books....right?

As ruthless as this may sound, I don't think that it a clear-cut life>books...for the reason that books (and culture in general) is the accumulation of several generations of knowledge, culture, folklore and whatnot...When we say in Africa that an old man that dies is a library that burns, it means that even worse that that nice old man dying is the fact that his accumulated knowledge (passed down by generations) is lost if he wasn't able to transmit it to the younger generation, which has been happening more and more as youngsters are moving away from that life...That's why dictators, even before they start mass-murdering, attack culture/history first (see Autodafés in Nazi Germany, the fight against "deviant" art...)

No vlad the impaler
Vlad the Impaler doesn't belong on that list. He was extremely cruel, yes, but his cruelty was a means to an end. It was psychological warfare, the only way he could counter the far superior power of the Ottoman empire. It was also directed against his own nobles, who ruined his country with their greed, squabling for power and double-dealing with the Ottomans during the time he was in exile.

He always strived for his country's economic well-being and political independence, and acted as a savage to those who threatened those things. He didn't kill his own people. He acted favorably torwards the peasants and merchants in an effort to strengthen agriculture and economy. He didn't mind appointing 'low-born' people into positions of power if they were loyal and competent.

As far as tyrants go, he actually wasn't that bad.:manny:
