Wrestling is part of the zeitgeist at the moment.
Besides the fact, there's a demand for live content, to me - things like this always seem to stem from the US President.
The current one is a a WWE hall of famer, who ironically also has an issue with separating fabricated horseshyt from the truth, so its kind of fitting. Trump even hosted two of the early Manias. It's no coincidence that the Saudis seem to be using wrestling as a marketing tool to show how 'progressive' they've become. We just won't talk about the fact that the women can't perform there. It's still a soft power play nonentheless.
During Obama's terms - there seemed to be a push to put more people of color into the forefront of pop culture. Off the top of my head - Atlanta, Insecure, Empire, Power, Black-Ish, all popped before he left office. Selma won a ton of awards. Lupita won an Oscar (there's a convo to be had about the subject of Selma and 12 Years A Slave' winning - but that's a whole different kettle of fish)
shyt - even Marvel - who previously had Ike Perlmutter blocking a Black Panther movie finally put him on the screen. Personally I'm happy as fukk to see that Black creators still use that fuel to get their work seen and their voices heard. I don't fukk with his films like that, but salute Tyler Perry for making his own studio. I don't know if that new studio has the potential to house so much great Black art if it wasn't for the mini renaissance of 2008-2016, though.
When Bush was in power - the economy went down the tubes, because people were doing mortgage scams and stealing with three hands, right as Bush and his mans were over in the Middle East helping themselves to oil.
It's funny that Fox - again - a body which historically has trouble separating made up horseshyt from the truth is now running SD. The only other thing that Trump stands for is
. There's always been plenty of
shows, so there's not really any difference to see in that regard. At its core - The Hollywood machine in itself is
because America in general is
I find it hard to look at things like a sudden glut of Wrestling shows in a vacuum, because when it comes to pop culture there's always a wider context.
