And that's the crux of the issue really - nobody is that open-minded, or at least it's not cool or it's weak to be open-minded enough to entertain such a conversation. So nobody wants to be on the end of that kind of ridicule. I expect things to change quite a bit over time myself - I think this confusion over things has lasted for a very long time, but this is an era where that confusion is being acknowledged a lot more instead of hidden for fear of a backlash. But to really sit down and have a conversation about it, there needs to be a concrete sort of way to completely separate it from those ideas. Pedophilia is well known to be a kind of mental disorder. Where does the confusion of gender identity fit in? It will probably always be shoehorned in like that, well not always, but at least in the near future.
