This is true. Architecturally Baltimore is more similar to Philly than DC. I've peeped this. DC is a different breed altogether. B'more like Philly actually has a skyline, while DC is low-rise. That's another difference. And I've noticed B'more and Philly have similar accents...........somewhat.

:whoa:

The distinction is that nobody else uses "Yo" quite like like y'all do lol

I'm not from Maryland. I'm from down South. But I have family in DC/Delaware/Philly and throughout the Delmarva peninsula. So I've been to DC more than any other Northern city.

Do y'all consider DC "The North"

All 3 are very old cities. With all the cities being so close we are bound to have similarities and people travel back n forth a lot. But Bmore and Philly are a lot more blue collar than DC. Put Philly and DC accents together and you have ours. NY nikkas cant tell the difference from Bmore and DC tho. We all sound just as country to them

If you play close attention you can lol..In Bmore besides the "Yo" thing y'all put a slant at the end of most words like Muryland..Fah'vah.. duu..

DC cats say Loafin...Bamma..Eyy'bahdy..mayn..

Yea we do say "yo" a lot while DC cats call each other "young":mjlol:

TBH I never even knew we had an accent until I met people from other places. Apparently my accent is thick as hell

DC is it's own thing just like New Orleans is...Boths cities are a hub and have ports so you can really call DC a east coast version of a Creole

What a New Yorker thinks doesn't hold any weight.

The DC accent does sound kinda southern tho. The Baltimore accent is just strange.

Its crazy cuz once you get past Columbia the accent just changes. DC nikkas sound country as hell but nowhere near as bad as Calvert County or Charles County nikkas

The Eastern Shore tho:dead:

It's crazy how quick things change going from Columbia to Laurel, which is about 10 minutes apart. The cultural change is very abrupt, and very easy to tell when you're leaving one metro and entering another. Someone from Columbia won't sound, act, or identify with someone from DC, and someone from Laurel won't sound or identify with some from Baltimore, but the two towns are 10 minutes apart.

I knew about DeBarge being WILD. Them light skinned dudes were of s different breed than the ones nowadays. Ain't no way a nikka named Chico isn't a wild..

:merchant:

I've also knew the same bout Bobby, Aaron Hall, Jodeci.

But SWV....those sweet ladies were wild behind the scenes?

:sadcam:

Maayn them chicks was thorough and got down more than all the other girl groups at the time...YouTube Ed Lover's stories 'bout him and LeLe back then and you'll see

:ohhh:

I've never thought of it that way. DC is somewhat of a mixed city culturally. I've always associated B'More with NOLA. Just the weird accents, coupled with the high crime rate, coupled with the vacancy rates, blight, blue-collar vibe, and it's history of B'more being a port city for slaves and such, it reminded me of an East coast version of New Orleans. But now that I think of it, you can say that for DC also.

I'm guessing the eastern shore folks are country and pretty much similsr to the Geechie folks of coastal South Carolina. The coastal areas of these Mid-Atlantic states always have the deepest connections to Slavery and the history associated with the antebellum period. The relics are still there in those towns.

Philly folks also have that similar b'more accent. They say brother like "Bruhva". But Philly folks also pronounce words like beers like "Bez". "Pass me da Bez". "It's hot in Heh" as opposed to "It's hot in Here".

^^^and that I guess it's called "Non-Rhotic" accent is similar to how they speak in NYC. That's why as a youngin, Philly and NYC were one in the same to me.

I really thought of it like that since N.O. bounce is cousin to Go Go
