Here is a look at interesting numbers for Florida State coming out of the BCS National Championship victory over Auburn.
The numbers
½ - Florida State is the first team to ever win the BCS National Championship when trailing at the half.
1 – Florida State is 1-0 when playing in the Rose Bowl Stadium.
1 – Jameis Winston is the first freshman quarterback to win a BCS National Championship.
2 – Kermit Whitfield’s 100-yard return was his second kickoff return for a touchdown this season. He joins Tamarick Vanover (1992) as just the second FSU true freshman in school history to return a pair of kicks of a touchdown in the same season.
2 – Rashad Greene and
Kelvin Benjamin each eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards on the season against Auburn. It is the first time FSU has had a 1,000-yard receiving duo since E.G. Green and Andre Cooper (1995).
3 – Florida State earned their third national championship with the victory over Auburn.
4 – Jimbo Fisher is 4-0 in bowl games as a head coach. He has claimed victories over South Carolina, Notre Dame, Illinois, and Auburn.

8 – Jameis Winston became the eighth player in history to win the Heisman Trophy while playing for the National Championship in the post-bowl polling era (1968 on).
11 – Florida State is the 11th team to have three or more national championships. They join Alabama (9), Notre Dame (8), Oklahoma (7), Miami (5), USC (5), Minnesota (4), Nebraska (4), Ohio State (4), Florida (3) and Texas (3). FSU is tied for the ninth-most national championships all-time.
14 – FSU finished the season with 14 victories. They are just the sixth team to ever win 14 games in a single season. They join Auburn (2010), Boise State (2009), Alabama (2009), Ohio State (2002), and BYU (1996) in the 14-win club. Auburn, Alabama, Florida State, and Ohio State all won National Championships.
15 – Kelvin Benjamin recorded his 15th touchdown reception of the season against Auburn. He ties Andre Cooper’s (1995) single-season record for touchdown receptions by a Seminole.
15 – Telvin Smith finished the game with a career-high 15 tackles. He finished the season with a team-leading 90 tackles.
16 – FSU has 16 consecutive wins. That is their longest streak since 2000.
18 – Florida State’s rally from 18 points down was the largest comeback in BCS National Championship Game history. Florida State trailed 21-3 with 5:01 left in the second quarter. The previous biggest comeback was by Texas in the 2006 game, as the Longhorns were down by 12 points with 6:42 remaining (38-26) and scored the game’s final 15 points.
26 – Florida State finished the season with 26 interceptions due to P.J. Williams’ third quarter pick. The 26 interceptions is a single-season record for Florida State.
27 – Florida State has an all-time record of 27-14-2 (.651) in bowl games.
29 – Rashad Greene has caught a pass in 29 consecutive games. A streak that spans three seasons.
30 – Devonta Freeman rushed for his 30th career touchdown against Auburn. He is now tied for third on FSU’s all-time rushing touchdowns list with Amp Lee.
32.57 – Kermit Whitfield finished the season with 17 kickoff returns for 619 yards. He averaged 32.57 yards per return on the season.
34 – With 34 points, Florida State now owns the FBS record for points in a season. The Seminoles scored 723 points on the season, breaking Oklahoma’s record of 716 points during the 2008 season. Both teams did it over a 14-game schedule.
45 – After completing his fourth season, FSU head coach
Jimbo Fisher (45-10) has compiled a .818 winning percentage which is the highest of any coach in ACC history. That is an ACC record for career wins in the first four years of coaching in the ACC.
68 – Florida State is 68-68-6 all-time against the Southeastern Conference. The ‘Noles are 5-51 against the current SEC teams in Bowl games.
84 – Florida State finished the season with 84 offensive touchdowns. The Seminoles rushed for 42 touchdowns and passed for 42 touchdowns.
147 – Rashad Greene’s 147 receiving yards against Auburn is the best receiving performance ever for a Seminole against the Tigers. He eclipsed Jessie Hester’s 4 reception, 143 yard performance in 1984.
157 – Roberto Aguayo finished the season with 157 points on the season after making a pair of field goals and all four extra-point attempts. He broke the NCAA single-season scoring record for kickers of 156 points set by Quinn Sharp of Oklahoma State in 2012.
171 – Rashad Greene has 171 career receptions, which is fourth all-time for a Seminole. He also has 2,465 career receiving yards, which ranks sixth all-time for a Seminole. He became Florida State’s first 1,000-yard receiver since Anquan Boldin (2002).
234 – Florida State faced five ranked teams during the season. In those games, they outscored their opponents 234-66.
315 – Florida State has outscored its opponents 315-109 away from home on the season.
511 – Florida State has an all-time record of 511-237-17 (.679).
583 – When Auburn’s Tre Mason scored on a 12-yard touchdown pass from Nick Marshall with 3:07 remaining in the first quarter, Florida State found itself facing a deficit for the first time in 583 minutes and 42 seconds.
1,000+ - A trio of Seminoles eclipsed 1,000 yards on the season last night –
Rashad Greene (1,128),
Kelvin Benjamin (1,011), and
Devonta Freeman (1,016). Freeman is Florida State’s first 1000-yard rusher since Warrick Dunn in 1996.
4,077 – Jameis Winston finished the season with 4,077 passing yards and 40 touchdowns. He is the first freshman in FBS history to eclipse 4,000 passing yards and toss 40 touchdown passes. Winston became the first player in FBS history to win the Heisman Trophy, lead his team to the National Championship and a 14-0 record, and lead an offense that averaged 50 points per game.
