I appreciate your post. But a few weeks ago when this came out, Covid, on google Translate did indeed translate directly to קובי and then when you reversed it came back as Kobe/Kobi.
I did it multiple times, and showed other people on my phone directly. But over the past week or so, it mysteriously changed on google translate. And now it adds that additional character at the beginning, which changes it into a different word.
I'm not saying you're wrong, you sound completely knowledgeable, but it did indeed change from what it was.

Google Translate is wrong. Covid is קוביד not קובי. Look at any Hebrew publication. Even the Hebrew Wiki on קוביד-19 will do.
Actually, it's working right now on Google Translate website. Just not the phone app.

Though to be fair, depending on the nikkud, Hebrew words ending in ה can be 'ah' or 'eh', so it applies the same situation to Kobe as 'beh' (בה), not 'be' (בי). Still, it's wrong.
Further clarification: Kobe can be קובה, but only if the second syllable is 'beh' (like Kobe, Japan). But if it ends with the pronunciation of 'be' (like Kobe Bryant), then it's קובי.
Google Translate is horrendous when it comes to Jewish languages. I wouldn't put too much stock into it. One word could have a different outcome each time, and it doesn't understand colloquialisms.

Because corona means crown. Kobe had that crown tattoo, and body was buried in corona del mar. So for Covid to ever translate to Kobe is indeed creepy..And then all the 41 references.

It's really only weird if you only speak one language, google translate can get horribly inaccurate at times, and the only reason it is as good as it is now is because people who are multilingual catch these horrible translations and google winds up fixing it later, like with this.

No, it does not translate to just anything. It translates to the best of its ability based on what the programmers think is the best available translation. Like any computer program, things get overlook and as more people use it, more bugs are found, then the bugs are fixed.
