So you're trying to justify this photographer's sick behavior? :what:

The NY Post is one of the worst news rags in the country.
not at all defending the NY Post...and neither is he.

like he said in the video, he did sell the photo to them...but he's a freelance photog. so it's better said that he licensed them to do what they want with it. he had nothing to do with how it's positioned & all that.

and in terms of what he could do about saving the dude...what could any of us have done? if there's a train coming into the station already, some faster than others, none of us can say for sure that we would've helped.

Sure, but this is borderline snuff material. It was wrong to take the photo, to sell it to the paper, and for the paper to print it. This isn't some photo of a warzone or starving or maimed children meant to inspire humanitarianism. It's pure voyeuristic disaster porn and there's not much defensible in that, whether or not the photographer could have saved the man.

I heard he had 22 seconds before the train came to do something. All he did was flash his camera at the conductor. Like that was really his intention, and not trying to snap shots of what was going on.

22 seconds isn't much

:manny:

Also the photo you see probably a half second later the guy on the tracks would have been under it.

The photographer also looks pretty weak as far as him trying to pull the guy out.

count to 22 and then tell me you couldn't help someone up a small ledge.

I could have jumped down there, lifted dude up and then did a quick set of pushups with enough time.

Even if there was some pause all it would have taken was for someone to put a hand out for a total of 10 seconds...if that.

The excuse of "i couldn't lift him myself" is why i think all those people in that tunnel were asses.

No one even tried. It's not like they failed at saving him, to fail you have to attempt, these dudes didn't even attempt to help the guy.

One thing that strikes me about NYC'ers is how indifferent they can be. I struck up a conversation with a guy in a subway train once after glancing at a pamphlet he was reading. Apparently he was an Argentine professional dancer and he personally invited me to some salsa show in NYC and that led to some other cool stuff.

Anyway, I told my NYC friends I was meeting that night the story and they were completely aghast that I would strike up a conversation with a random stranger in a subway station.

But then again, maybe if the Asian guy knew the NYC indifference rule he would have stayed cleared of the bum and kept it moving. On the other hand, if NYC'ers weren't so indifferent, they would have saved that guys life.

Id say that a generalization... @Gallo

You and the salsa guy struck up a conversation are you the only people capable in the city?

I talk to people all the time.

It's the out of towners who are unfriendly because that's what they see the city as.

Oh it is complete generalization and anecdotal. I'm sure there are plenty of NYC'ers who would have risked their own lives to help that man. Unfortunately, none of them were in that subway station. That being said, I was raised in NYC but my current job has me traveling all over the place so I notice the provincial and parochial differences. Indifference is one of those things that I found to be much more pronounced in NYC. Only place where fukkers charge me a dollar to bum a smoke:smugdraper:

Not sure if this is true or not, but I've heard NYC is a cold ass town. 'Keep to yourself, don't touch me, don't get close to me, what are you talking to me for'....kind of town. Obviously, that doesn't apply to everyone, but at the end of the day, someone should have attempted to stop the train or waive it down at least, instead of just look while this person perished.
