The chargers were 18.5 point underdogs for this game :russ: that would NEVER happen today in a sueprbowl

To put that in perspective, the 18-0 2007 Patriots were 12.5 favorites over the giants

Everyone knew the result was a given.

Super Bowls are so much more competitive now than the days of “which AFC team gets the honor of losing this year?”

I remember this game and the hype was through the roof.
3 plays from scrimmage into the game and Young hit Rice for a 44 yard score. By the time they were 5 minutes into the game Ricky Watters had also scored from 51 yards. The game was over before all the fans had even gotten into their seats :russ:

We were really spoiled in that era as Niner fans. You take it for granted as a kid.

2010-on has been great in sports because of the Warriors and Giants, but the Niners keep leaving us so close but no cigar :francis:
