To Those Producers Who Refuse to Make Trap/Club Beats...

What are you expecting out of your craft? Is it for the love? or do you believe real hip hop will be coming back to the forefront to the point where you can make a living off it?

For us(SICbeats) we started making beats in 99 didn't get real good at it IMO until circa 2002 with the attitude we are going to make our type of hip hop and it will be so amazing nikkas gonna be banging our door for beats....fast forward to 2012 with a handful of underground beat placements I(there are 3 of us in total) pretty much exclusively now make trap/club/techno beats...My thinking is if those handful of placements were to 50, wayne, etc. we'd be instead of to BCC, wordsworth, punchline, etc...no disrespect to them because the joints are classics IMO, but what we got off that is barely weed money for the month...

FWIW this is the most recent joint we did with Words not a trap joint more alt I guess. He is doing a collabo LP called 'Rhed Tape' with my partner skeematics which should be out sometime this year....it's dope but i'm not sure if it'll blow, but good music nonetheless

I make them just to expand my skillset honestly. Plus you learn different ways of going about things by stepping out of your comfort zone a little.

That's what I've noticed. Trap and boom bap I guess are like opposites.....trap can have more crazy drums IMO but a simpler melody while 'boom' bap has a more complex melody with a more simpler drums i.e no rolls...

but I think I've got to the point and owning the style and making it my own or i've been brainwashed by mass media

I make both.. I and do a good job of it. I can make any type of beat.

I don't get paid from music, and I don't really intend to, so I just make whatever I want and have to time for.

Why do people hate on trap beats though is my question. They're awesome. Yeah some people are not very imaginative with theirs but people like Lex Luger and Mike Will produce constant bangers.

because i was able to secure management and dj bookings without having to. i made my own lane and ran with it. do whatever makes you feel good. the boom bap lane is crowded, the trap lane is crowded, so i figured id just try something else.

i'll do any kind of beat. i personally find the so-called trap beats, as ive made them are less confining than boom bap. you can do more of "whatever the fukk want" musically...by comparison

a lot of the ones i hear now remind me of trip-hop, another more free-form style than traditional boom bap
