To this day, I still feel like no one actually won with Nas vs. Jay

Who really won

Jay-Z straight up acted like a bytch on too many levels when he heard Ether to recover so he pretty much deaded himself and anything he tried to do afterwards. Ether was a great diss, possibly even the GOAT, but the way he reacted to it puts it over the top.

You can say Nas won on the music side, but he lost in real life. How you handle yourself as person in real life takes WAAY more percent over the rap game. I still cannot believe Jay got away with blatantly disrespecting him, his bytch, and his child like that:what:. I didn't expect Nas to have Jay killed or anything, but how did he come away with no scratches at all? He violated his family and disrespected him as a man in every way:huhldup:. People have been killed for less than this and I remember a rapper dying for this exact same thing this year.

At the end of the day the insults both of them said have stuck with them for the rest of their career and it fed the stans with ammunition for a decade now. In that aspect, hip hop and the fans won. I don't give a fukk how many times this has been talked about either so don't come in here with no bullshyt:beli:

Okay let's look at it from a meta level, outside of the songs, or the personal attacks.

Nas won because Jay escalated their little subliminals into a full on war move and Nas stopped it and came back to acclaim. Primo said that when Takeover landed people were singing along to "laaaaaaame" in the club. After Ether that stopped. That's the power of Nas' response.

so Jay didn't lose his position but he lost that 'move'. That's why he never got the undisputed crown. The good thing is both artists are pretty different so they eventually kept strong in their own lanes

now here's an interesting question: did that beef affect Nas' career and help keep him true to his lane? I imagine a lot of stillmatic was already recorded before Takeover so the whole album's quality wasn't a response to a song that dropped some weeks prior. However the fact that Nas didn't try to go back into the Nastradamus lane...

The way I see it though this was like a school yard argument between best friends where they are just trading shots and some of them just happen to be personal or true. Then all of a sudden someone says "But I fukked your mom and you know I did:pacspit:". You could have said insults that were true, they might have stung more, but how do you recover from that:russ:

well he de-facto recovered because it was over by that point.. and Jay also got some pushback on that from some women

interestingly, like with Kelis, nas didn't throw Carmen under the bus on that

Her weakness was shine yo
But that's her, I ain't mad baby, it made me stronger
Now I get my paper longer

Nas dissed Carmen plenty subliminally on Stillmatic and Gods Son...

As for the Battle I don't see how one can say there was no winner when one of the rappers admitted LOSING on wax. When the individual admits that they lost they that's pretty much a wrap...

They both have solidified careers, Jay is selling out shows and is considered the biggest artist in rap right now. Nas isn't as popular as Jay but he is still highly relevant today, especially for someone that has been rapping as long as he has, but as for the battle, only insecure Jay stans try to act like he won the battle, he admitted defeat on blueprint 2 and sounded hurt in the hot 97 interview after ether dropped

The moment I knew Nas won was Hov's desperate attempt to get the last word in on "Blueprint 2".

It was pitiful. You compare that song to the victorious swag of Last Real Nikka Alive and you can tell even Hov knew he took the L.

Think about it this way, People still debate the Thrilla in Manila and that was 40 years ago.

If there's enough intrigue and the characters involved are large enough you can keep going with these things as long as you want.

couldnt have said it better myself. blueprint 2 is cringeworthy. like i said in some other thread, he had to resort to clownin on the hook and shyttin on rap fans for not bein smart enough to understand nas rhymes :laff:
