I have grade A hair. I can afford to have a fukked up hairline (I don’t) from generations of family members who cared about the quality of hair their children and grandchildren would inherit. That’s not the point. Black men are the only men that obsess over something as mundane as the straightness of their hairline. Why is this?

Does it come from insecurity because melanated hair is more kinky than everyone else’s and so we have to make sure that everything else is on point, so to speak? The obsession comes off as very feminine.

Hair has always been important to black/African people. Different hairstyles represent different stages of life, culture, health. Unkempt hair was/is considered an archetype of someone's mental/spiritual state by many. (*Example: mad scientist, crazy crackhead, hermit/guru or wise spiritual devotee.
