Phones are computers as are consoles. If the tech that can be shrunk down and have its heat signature reduced to nothing advances dont you think the bleeding edge tech is going to advance too. There are graphics cards now that are so advanced they cant even be put into the new consoles coming out this winter. They run too hot and are too large.

There will come a point (which is almost now from what I seen on those PS4 game trailers) that graphics are gonna hit a wall, and you're gonna have the same ol games with great graphics. When that happens these gaming companies are going to have to innovate and create something new. Augmented Reality is getting bigger and I think shyt like that is gonna open paths for these mobile companies to work with the Microsofts and Sonys more and eventually we wont need a "console" sitting on an entertainment stand

Graphics will never hit a wall as long as hardware keep improving. More powerful hardware also allow people to be creative with games. Only thing that will matter is how much money companies are willing to invest in producing the games.

as long as a gaming pc needs a big ass PSU and a long graphics card with large fans to cool them, there will always be a console offering the next step down, and then a mobile device third.

They coexist now and there' no reason they can't in the future.
Lazy developers, greedy companies, and lack of innovation will kill consoles before mobile gaming does.

i'd liken it to the PlayStation Vita type experience on the go but with the ability to plug it up to a TV (which they intentionally left out of the Vita) and play at home. its almost like the SEGA Nomad becoming feasible.
I assumed this was a goal for Sony and why they got Gaikia

Streaming PS4 Titles with Gaikai

“A PS4 in your pocket”. That’s how Sony is repositioning its most powerful handheld, ready for the release of its cutting-edge home console, PS4.

It’s not just PR bluster from Fergal Gara; it’s a statement of intent from a company determined to make PS Vita a success.

Remote Play, introduced with PS3/PSP, was a good idea ruined by poor execution. Using Gaikai streaming, PS4 and PS Vita have the power to make it work.

Imagine going to visit your girlfriend for the weekend – normally you’d have to lug your PS4, possibly on the train, with trailing wires and piles of discs.

Forget that: pack up your Vita, abuse her WiFi and play Killzone, Driveclub and even Knack from the comfort of her home. You’ll never have to talk again!

PS4 has been built from the ground of with Gaikai integration in mind, promising a service that takes advantage of both consoles and supercharging Vita with nearly every PS4 game available on the go.

Some people bemoaned PS Vita’s resolution upon release – at 960x540, it’s smaller than some smartphones of similar screen sizes.

It seems Sony was thinking ahead.

That resolution is an exact quarter of 1080p – the size all PS4 titles will be rendered in natively.

It means PS Vita will be able to scale down PS4 games perfectly without altering size or messing with messy conversion issues, jaggies or jarring.
