Michael Pachter said it basically when mobile gaming reaches a level that the hardware can produce graphics that rival what's on consoles. you'll just Bluetooth or whatever sync your phone to your TV or use an HDMI cable and use Bluetooth controllers.

i'd liken it to the PlayStation Vita type experience on the go but with the ability to plug it up to a TV (which they intentionally left out of the Vita) and play at home. its almost like the SEGA Nomad becoming feasible.

i honestly believe this will be the last conventional generation of game consoles. Nvidia is seriously trying to push mobile gaming to an acceptable graphical level and AMD is doing combo cpu /gpu chips that are in the next console generation's hardware.

Honestly Nintendo should have pushed for this. the 3DS or whatever coming with a small base station that connects to the TV (has some hardware in it like the rumored Xbox attachment for the Durango) and syncs with the unit Wirelessly giving you a TV screen and making the actual 3DS what the Wii U Gamepad is now.

I hate it when nikkas say this bullshyt. Consoles may be in decline but they ain't going nowhere. There's still a strong brand loyalty to these three companies making these consoles and they will stay that way. The difference now is that there's simply more gadgets to get. That's all.

The only real threat to console gaming is useg game outlets. They're in decline now thanks to the growing digital purchases on psn/xbl. That's why they been closing down small stores by the dozen.

Consoles aren't going anywhere, if sony or microsoft of nintendo decided to close shop, another smaller console maker would take their spot.

The biggest problem right now is pricing. It costs more to make console games and a lot of people have abandoned consoles because we're getting betas and unfinished versions of games for 60 dollars and having to pay another 60 for the full game or experience. Journalist are not going to report on it if they want to keep their jobs but a lot of people have been turned off by the DLC epidemic.

What I see in the future for consoles are a little more of the same in addition to more downloadable content and more f2p (free to play) games being released.

I definitely feel what you are saying, but re-read that article again and think about it. Yes, I've always been a console gamer (pc now too), but the way technology is advancing and the jumps we've seen over the past few years with mobile gaming, by next generation (after the new consoles drop) mobile gaming may be on par with consoles. Phones now have better processors and more ram than computers in a lot of cases so I don't think you realize the reality of what can happen over the next few years

Mobile gaming is only on par with at most the late Xbox/PS2 to early 360/PS3 levels. That's basically 2005-2006 technology.

They still have a long way to go to catch up with the current generation of consoles being made now. That's what I'm talking about. Mobile gaming is still like 6-7 years behind.

stopped reading at Pachter...the same nikka who said that since now have 8x the amount of memory in current consoles, we'll be able to get 240fps in a game. :stopitslime:

they need to make consoles basically dockable laptops. handhelds are not going to cut it

So you're saying at least 8 years from now?

People need to look at the scope of the games on mobile platforms and consoles to really understand how big of a difference there is. Sure something like Infinity Blade looks good but as far as what the game is asking the phone to handle it isnt even close to what full PS2 games ask for. You think a phone will be able to handle Skyrim any time soon?

I'll take gaming on a console and dedicated handheld device over gaming on a phone any day of the week. I'm sure every gamer feels the same.

Yes, about 8 years. But what I think yall are missing is the technology advancing part. In 2006 when PS3 was released most phones didn't play shyt but Snake, if that? Look at the jump to Infinity Blade in 5 years. Phones are computers, and if you don't think so now I'm sure you will in the next 2 years or so. Computer technology advances fast which means so will phones/mobile devices. Within 8 years, do you really think that Microsoft isnt gonna try to sell you a phone/gaming console that plays games that are up to par with consoles? :usure:

Phones are computers as are consoles. If the tech that can be shrunk down and have its heat signature reduced to nothing advances dont you think the bleeding edge tech is going to advance too. There are graphics cards now that are so advanced they cant even be put into the new consoles coming out this winter. They run too hot and are too large.
