Can somebody explain what investment banking is
Investment banking is the “premier” finance job.
There are multiple components to it but the biggest would be M&A (mergers and acquisitions) / advisory.
If company A wants to buy company B comp. A doesn’t go directly to comp B at first or at all.
they go to an IB(investment bank) who then leads the transactions/ compile financials forecast/research, ect. They also might even provide the financing.
If a company wants to sell bonds (debt) then the IB will provide the services to do so and the same for any stock offerings or an IPO.
in laments terms they are the middle men and arms dealers for most major financial transactions between companies and even governments.
