In the press release announcing the deal with WarnerMedia, AEW is described as providing “less scripted, soapy drama, and more athleticism and real sports analytics.”

Super excited to see an easily accessible WWE alternative but I'm not crazy about the above quote. One of WWE's chief issues aside from McMahon being an insufferable c*nt is that their storytelling & characters absolutely suck. Can only speak for myself but the one thing that always compelled me to pick up the remote was the drama that happened before the bell sounded. If they'll be focusing on guys wrestling 25 minute matches for respect and to test their mettle on some Ken vs Ryu shyt, I won't remain interested for long. :ld: Hopefully I'm reading too much into it but that ain't the move that'll keep me tuning in weekly. There is an audience for that, though. Either way, I hope they succeed. :yeshrug:

Cody goin HAM

Cody speaks on seizing on what's currently missing in the WWE, noting that while working for his former employer was great, at the end of the day, it just wasn’t wrestling:

“[As] much as I say it was a wonderful job, it wasn’t wrestling. That’s something I’ve learned a lot about, the grittiness and the sports-centric element of the industry that doesn’t exist really anywhere else currently. We have the opportunity to seize that.”

I read it as (and hope it is) an inversion of what the WWE has now. Over there, matches really just exist to serve storylines, but they're talking about storylines serving matches.

I hope.

AEW has to do something that hasn’t been done right before. Wwe and tna had top 10 lists that didn’t last long. We’ll see

Please no on air authority figures. If we have an authority figure let them only make appearances like Jack Tunney and Gorilla Monsoon in the 80s and 90s which was rare. Don't have them be faces or heels, just neutral.

Use jobbers once in awhile. That way you won't burn out matches with the same wrestlers.

PPVS should be every other month or a few times a year. This gives time for storylines to develop. Crazy how in 1997 Sting and Hogan never faced off with each other until Starrcade. Nowadays they would have wrestled multiple times throughout the year whether it be one on one matches or tag matches.

Get good looking championship belts!

Minimize gimmick matches(cage matches, hardcore, ladder, etc) to special occassions.
