At least when Ricochet would do this extra acrobatic shyt, he'd try to establish something within the narrative half the time. Like, I'm not sure Ospreay actually understood the function of that flippy shyt sequence in his and Ricochet's BOSJ 2016 match (second stage of the feeling out process began with the matwork that came before it, further establishes Ricochet's character as a showoff hotshot, establishes Ospreay as exactly on Ricochet's level), which is why he does this crap all the time for no reason instead of building to it or seeing it as part of the match's narrative flow.

This sequence with Rey Fenix is definitely athletically impressive (because Fenix is one of the 3-5 best high flyers wrestling today, maybe even the best), but the sequence is meaningless because they go right into it and it establishes nothing. As other have said, it's an indie respek spot. We've seen almost literally a million of those at this point, so who cares.

Ospreay is an idiot (phenomenally talented, but an idiot), and Vader was probably more right than we want to admit in dragging him on Twitter for this bullshyt.

Not sure if it was mentioned, but I dislike the opening back and forth, trying to get the upper hand routine. It’s always the usual same moves: tie-up, body lock, reverse, body lock, reverse with takedown, etc. And marks always clap for it. :beli:

Once in a rare moment the moves are different.

Nxt is notorious for goofy stuff like this which is why I don't fool with it.

Wrestling is at its worst when it's choreographed from start to finish. That's why I loved Ricky Steamboat matches because he admitted to being an improve wrestler, and his matches always felt unpredictable.
