Kawhi played 3 quarters in the 2017 WCF and it was the same dynamic in reverse, he was far and away the best player on the floor and outplayed Durant. Same as Durant showing up for a quarter in the '19 Finals...

Kawhi and Durant are close to a wash, if you were to give a lean one way then yes, Durant got him in the '16 Semis...

Also, injury prone as Durant is, he's been more consistently available in his career than Kawhi. So another point in his favor, and I think it matters that he has an MVP, Kawhi has none...

Durant was the best player on two loaded championship teams; Kawhi was the best player on one loaded championship team...

But game for game, peak versions of themselves, I can see the argument for Kawhi. It's close enough to call either way or just call it a draw...

This one of the big "what if" moments of that Warriors run. Spurs lost by 2, but they weren't losing that G1 if Kawhi stays in. He have Durant and Iggy and Klay and Draymond that work in only 2½ quarters. If SA goes up 1-0, who knows how that series plays out. Warriors may still win but it's not a given if Kawhi maintained that play throughout the series...

Just like '18 Finals G1, LeBron with yet another All-Time Finals game, if Cleveland wins that game, I'm less confident they win the series, but momentum matters in sports and always has. Just like the '15 Finals where the Warriors lost two games playing just Bron and a bunch of bench players and G-Leaguers...

That entire Warriors run has what it's in every season ...

My point though, it's not difficult to make the case Kawhi at peak was as good or better than Durant...

Kawhi isn't gonna get much better than what he is. His game isn't made to be a first option because he can't really shoot or create. That's why I never got the Pippen comparison. Pippen could play point, kawhi has a different skill set.
