the next guy
Superstar
Tim Tebows season-long frustration bubbled to the surface Wednesday when the third-string quarterback took umbrage to all the character body blows that hes absorbed in the past few days. Tebows pristine image as a team-first guy was stained by the perception that he told Rex Ryan to no longer use him in Wildcat packages after Greg McElroy leapfrogged over him on the depth chart to become the Jets new starter.
You work your whole life to build a reputation, Tebow said. Then people try to bring you down when they dont understand even what happened. Its disappointing. You just want to express your side of the story.
Tebows version of events goes like this: On Tuesday, he expressed his frustration to the head coach at A) Not being named the starter (Please let me play regular quarterback. ) and B) His limited Wildcat role that often called for him to run straight ahead. (I was frustrated running up the middle.)
Tebow admitted that he wished he were more clear in the Tuesday meeting, because its a possibility that Ryan misinterpreted his message. Tebow realized during Thursdays practice that he would likely have a reduced role against the Chargers when wide receiver Jeremy Kerley took the bulk of the Wildcat reps. Tebow went back to Ryan on Friday to express his desire to help out in any way he could, but it was clear that the coach had already moved on with the new plan.
