A lot of people commute, mostly working regular retail, restaurant jobs in south San Diego and there is an industrial area called otay Mesa, I worked in a factory there and about half of the people commuted from tj
You have to get a sentri card which lets you skip the lines, it takes me 2 minutes to cross but I walk across, I'm not sure how fast it is if you are driving, but presumably that is pretty quick also
Another recent wrinkle is that Mexico set up their own border checks so you need a passport to go into Mexico, which wasn't the case before, before you just walked in
I have a global entry card which works the same as the sentri (sentri is just for mex and can)
Btw, every respectable coli member with 6 figures and six certs needs to get a global entry card so you never have to fuk with the lines when you come back to the us
But yeah, tj is blowing up, they pretty much have all the typical brands from Walmart to Applebee's to Starbucks and you can buy property for less than 50k and rent it out
Hell that's kind of legit then. In that case it is possible to live very affordably in TJ and work in SD.
