Sugar Hill for me. I had the maxi single when it dropped in 95 and it had 3 versions of sugar hill and 2 versions of Rather Unique. I jammed that so many times.
I honestly didn't like IIRTW when it dropped![]()
i never could get into "if i ruled the world" either.
i think the main reasons being that he sampled 2 hip-hop classics, and his song wasn't as good as either of em. plus, i was already tired of the fugees by that point.

Exactly, maybe if I hadn't heard the OG songs I would have liked it a little better. I didn't like the fugues either, killing me softly was so played out and Clef really annoyed me with his ad-libs always he was forcing his "one-time" accent and seemed phony...so I already went into IIRTW skeptical.
Whodini's Friends is such a legendary track to me and at that time it just seemed cheap and easy to blow up a track with that sample. But that was really starting to happen around then with Bad Boy and some others.
.to me thats the only blemish on an otherwise great album in It Was Written
