I think smooth criminal was a better video, but if you were alive when Billie Jean dropped, you realize there was no greater "drip" in the history of man. He went from a pop star who was a kid star to superstar swag levels we didn't even understand and it was young and confident. Look at dudes facial expressions on billie jean plus the subject matter. Demeanor was night and day vs Off the Wall. Its like he was stepping on the football field.

Na, MTV or ET would make an announcement of the next MJ video, what time and channel and when it dropped.

Literally everyone around the world no matter what time would tune into it live.
