This is a uniquely bad and offensive movie, hits many ugly racial notes, and manages to use the rape, murder, and torture of a child as not much more than a backdrop for textbook hack, unfunny "black comedy", which consists of good actors reciting bad lines, that reflect a reality that exists nowhere on this earth, much less in Ebbing Missouri.

-When Dixon called the first Mexican a "beaner" there were loud laughs in the audience, in the small, indie theater I frequent, when similar jokes were made regarding black people, there was also laughter. I have to believe Mcdonough was going for these laughs.

I'm in Houston and the predominantly older white audience laughed as well.

Almost got heated but :manny: i should have known better.

Saw this tonight.

Really enjoyed it. Martin streak continues, quickly becoming one of my favorites.

The movie used comedy as a way to deal with grief. And that's honestly how a lot of people deal with grief in real life. Film had me consistently laughing out loud. He is just very talented at absurdist black comedy.

The plot itself is obviously far fetched but that's not really the point.

I did find the film started to drag a bit in the 2nd half ,nothing terrible but it was a noticeable drop in quality.

Great performances all around.

Movie was just boring to me. Good actors but the characters were morons, their level of stupidity wasn't believable.
Woody who believes that Rockwell could be a good detective. Okay.

I think it's a bit racist, even with the fact that the black folks were the decent ones (it feels forced) and the use of comedy. It appears to me like a cac watch on difference, not a kkk one but still, hypocrite. I don't understand why it was a theme so present in fact.

My oscar goes to Mac's mom.

This was like a parody, so much dumb sh1t happening. Dialogue was terrible and I'm not surprised the writer/director was British and has never been to the Midwest/south and is just writing characters based off of other movies/TV.

this film -one of the worst movies i ever watched

it feels like a bad origin for a female vigilante from the mid 2000s

its crazy that Jessica Jones treats violence against women with more respect :hhh:

This was a sleeper for me. Missed all of the hype but heard that Frances McDormand won some award and checked it out. Personally, I was pleasantly surprised. No one is 100% good and no one is 100% bad. From the abusive husband to the lead actress to the racist police. I liked the layers and the pacing and everything about it.

I had a feeling that Woody was going to off himself but the fact that he did it less than halfway through the movie was unexpected. Also, lol at him paying for the billboards to give the protagonist shyt from beyond the grave.

I haven’t finished it but I just want to say Sam Rockwell is a fukking a$$hole.

:russ:

Like no redeeming qualities and he don’t even give a fukk.

:laff:

And shouts out to Lester to getting that chief spot.

Watched this today.... love it

Rockwell the gawd , always comes thru.... Woody too

Sad thing, but there are towns out there with police forces that incompetent.
This was an amplified version, with Dixon being the town drunk and a cop at the same time. Threw a nicca outta second floor window, and didnt get any charges pressed :russ:

Not sure, but was this being in Mizzou an allusion to Ferguson at all?

This movie was great

I laughed so hard when dixon non chalantly bashes reds windows, busts reds nose, throws him out, his gf screams only for him to punch her in the face and say “shut up bytch”

I didnt wanna laugh. But i did. Hysterically. Every makn character is hatable/likeable at the same time. Great film man.
