Binged some kdramas this week

Friendly Rivalry - it's a quick binge because episodes are under 30 mins. Acting for it was good, but it felt like the plot wasn't going anywhere until near the end. I will say it's about a 6.5/10, but it's a decent binge

Weak Hero: Class - Is amazing and one of the best shows I've seen in awhile. The action in it is very good and the fight scenes feel like you see back in the day. I like how we don't see them doing any flips and other nonsense and just straight up fights. I thought they did a great job with the characters and I like how they don't try and redeem certain characters because it felt like plot wise they did stuff that is not usually done in dramas where friend betrays friend group and doesn't have any redeeming qualities. Beom-Seok is such a bytch and I am happy he's irredeemable. I am curious how part 2 is going to work becuase this environment seems like it's the wild west. I would like to add I thought it was hilarious Beom-Seok old bullies were bytches because I was like damn these guys had you shook.
I will say part 1 is like a 9.5/10 for me. I have to see how part 2 is but it's one of the strongest starts for recent kdramas imo

I might try and binge Study group this week or some time before part 2 of Weak Hero: Class

it's not awful, but I think it was getting overhyped due to woman kissing and the rare GL story in kdramas. I think the format of shorter episodes hurt it a bit because some episodes needed a bit more time, so it felt rushed. I think the premise of the show is interesting. I think many enjoyed the show because it has a high rating, but I think that's what made me give it a 6.5/10. I think if I had no expecations going in, it would be about a 7 or 7.5/10

There are a couple of reviewers for Korean shows I'll take into consideration on mydramalist that align with my preferred genres.

That said, more Korean shows need to be 30 mins. And they need to write them like they write the last 15 minutes of these hour long episodes.

That said, more Korean shows need to be 30 mins. And they need to write them like they write the last 15 minutes of these hour long episodes.

Some shows are wild. I was going to check Prison Playbook, and then I see each episodes are like 1hr 30 mins

I think they're cutting down on length for some kdramas because I've noticed some are aiming towards 40mins run time rather than the 1hr. I think what happens with Kdramas sometimes they get lost in pacing due to runtime.

Reviews can be tricky with some kdramas because some stuff get overhyped due to premise or the actor involved. I think this thread is usually on point when it comes to rating kdramas.

Started my viki trial yesterday, and have now completed study group.

I understand the hype because this show is insane. It reminds me of Mob Psycho meets Yakuza, and I feel that's the best way to explain things if I were to sell the show

This is everything I needed for a new show to watch because it had a great balance with comedy, acting, plot, and fun characters. I don't like when action goes too over the top but I thought this show handled it well. I like how stylistic the action is and I thought it did a great effects with the action.

I highly recommend this show. I think one of the negatives about this show I felt they could've developed some of the villains better like I wanted the motivation to be a bit more. Then quality drops off a bit with the last 3 episodes or so, but it's still a fun watch. Plus, I felt certain characters should've done a bit more, but I understand they want to focus on main group and maybe go deeper if it gets season 2

I hope weak hero class 2 can maintain the level of quality of the first season. I think that has potential of being the best kdrama of the year.

I tapped out at 5/6 episodes in of that Friendly Rivalry, pure garbage i thought.

This premiered on Netflix yesterday, I might give it a glance.

I think most of the hype had to do with it potentially being a GL story which is rare in that industry. I think it's a decent binge because episodes are short, but 2nd half of the show was weaker than the first. If you didn't enjoy the first half, then don't bother checking out the rest imo

Kim Soo Hyun might be done out here, he's 1 of the most highest paid kdrama actors & he's been hit with allegations of grooming Kim Sae Ron (She commit suicide in February, she was in Bloodhounds & played the little girl in The Man From Nowhere).

His shows have already been postponed (1 was supposed premiere on Disney this month) & endorsements/sponsors have dropped him including Prada.
