I watched a K-Horror this weekend that I thought was dope. Copying my review from the Horror thread:
Sleep
This is one hell of a promising debut effort from the writer/director. Sleep has a slow-burn feel that I don't think we get enough of these days. It actually gave me vibes from two POLAR OPPOSITE horrors. But I'll name-drop those in a minute.
Sleep unfolds with each nightly experience. The couple goes to sleep, the husband starts sleepwalking, and his bizarre behavior escalates with each night. Between those moments, we get the couple's reactions during the daytime and their attempts to address it. They go to doctors, safety-proof the house, and consult mediums out of desperation. Meanwhile, each night, the husband's actions become more threatening.
It works really well! This dude starts snoring, and it has the same ominous vibe as when Paranormal Activity's footage would start fast-forwarding. You KNOW that trouble is coming and that it will be worse than the last. Meanwhile, the clash of religion vs science for answers gave me a bit of the old Exorcist vibes. So, this is a fascinating combination, especially since it has a K-horror twist.
This joint does have some flaws. Characters act foolishly at times, and people sleep through some madness. But it never disrupts enough to reduce the tension. I really enjoyed it!
You gotta check out Bloodhounds if you're into the gritty gangter movies. It's on Netflix
