The Affair is one of the most critically acclaimed new shows this year and it stars two English actors.

The chick that plays Agent Carter is English.

Rick from Walking Dead is English.

Martin Freeman from Fargo is English.

Clive Owen from the Knick is English.

Will and Hannibal in Hannibal are played by an English and Danish guy.
speaking of walking dead

maggie, the governor, and morgan are all foreigners

you wouldnt know that until you hear their interviews

Please explain why it is not disgraceful that there is a trend in Hollywood and television where non-American Blacks play characters; these characters being American Black.

If I deem your response thoughtful and factually correct I would love to engage in a back-and-forth.

It's a trend in Hollywood period to have non-Americans play Americans.

Numerous posters have listed non American whites that play American characters in some of the most popular tv shows and movies.

The guy playing Spiderman is British.

The last Batman was English.

Wolverine is Australian.

Superman is British.

What's behind this casting trend? For producers doing the hiring, they're simply looking for the strongest talent and expect the American accent to follow. Carlton Cuse, who worked with an able international cast on Lost, chose two young British actors for pivotal American roles in A&E's upcoming Psycho prequel Bates Motel, including Highmore as Norman Bates. "We were completely charmed by him," Cuse says. "We looked at a lot of actors, but the truth is, there currently seems to be a big gulf between Australian and British actors and American actors. The American actors just don't seem as well trained or as deep and complex."

It's a trend in Hollywood period to have non-Americans play Americans.

There is a trend in Hollywood and television of non-Americans in general playing Americans. That is true. But I would argue that the trend of non-American Blacks playing American Blacks is far more prevalent and therefore damaging to the future (or lack thereof) of American Blacks in Hollywood and television than the future of American Whites in Hollywood and television. You can't argue that there are not a bevy of young (under 35) White American actors set for long and prodigious careers in Hollywood. For the American Black this is simply not the case.

And I understand that the American Black experience has historically not been captured in Hollywood and television to even a modicum of the extent that the American White experience has been captured. What I am saying is that we have a situation that has gone from bad to worse.

In addition to the crisis facing American Black actors, there is a crisis in regards to war movies which recently have been artistic disasters. Too much jingoistic bullshyt coming out of Hollywood and television. We by definition need artistically serviceable war movies to help us (at the very least) cope with global warfare in which the United States are involved in by portraying both sides of the conflict and going beyond demonizing our "enemies."

Just watched Selma. And seeing 12 Years a Slave. We see these major characters played by non-American Blacks in these historical films (Martin and Coretta. Solomon and Lupita in 12 years) I'm not saying I have a problem with it. I just wanna hear every one thoughts on it. Do you think it's just a trend? Or are we seeing a shift in Hollywood. I know this is kinda TLR-esque type of topic but still it's about films.

depends on the role...

The GAWDDESS Viola's How To Get Away with Murder is one of my new favorite show. The

bloke on the left is British, and the pretty sista's from here. Anytime you see US on the screen, without any ignorant fukkery, is another W for BLACKEXCELLENCE:yeshrug:
