Just watched Selma. And seeing 12 Years a Slave. We see these major characters played by non-American Blacks in these historical films (Martin and Coretta. Solomon and Lupita in 12 years) I'm not saying I have a problem with it. I just wanna hear every one thoughts on it. Do you think it's just a trend? Or are we seeing a shift in Hollywood. I know this is kinda TLR-esque type of topic but still it's about films.

I think we seeing a shift of us American blacks not taking acting serious where as more black Europeans care about the art more especially the younger generation

And to be honest, especially with Black films. I cringe because I fear bad acting. But with Black Euros, Africans, I do feel a certain caring about the art. And I'm not saying they're touching our greats like Denzel, Morgan etc.

The Affair is one of the most critically acclaimed new shows this year and it stars two English actors.

The chick that plays Agent Carter is English.

Rick from Walking Dead is English.

Martin Freeman from Fargo is English.

Clive Owen from the Knick is English.

Will and Hannibal in Hannibal are played by an English and Danish guy.

I'd like to see some black american actors is foreign films. Not that I mind the latest "trend" but aren't there black actors in America they can use?

The majority of British actors have formal, Shakespearian training. The bar on quality has risen much higher in the past couple years so Hollywood wants good actors (opposed to good-looking actors).

Unfortunately, American actors are traditionally hired because of skills in the bedroom or how they look on camera - not acting skill - so most are behind the trends. Hence the British invasion of actors. I'm okay with this, I like quality movies with good acting, so I hope it continues. If I want to see good-looking people that can't act, I'll watch prime time sitcoms.

And truthfully, I'm just glad to see black actors getting good, quality roles in movies. If they are excellent actors with formal training of the craft, all the better.
