The new carlton isn't any more anti black as the old carlton was. He's just a realistic interpretation of Carlton. Old Carlton is just a characteristic turned to 100 while new Carlton comes off like an actual real life person. Both characters work in their setting because one is a sitcom filmed in from of a studio audience while the other is a narrative.

Old Carlton couldn't work even in a comedy now and would have to be tweaked.

It's a different show in a different universe in the same vein of how comics do their reboots to update for the respective times, and the sooner people realize that, the sooner we can stop with stupid ass comparisons like how the high school girl from this version isn't as sexy as the grown woman Will met in college.
