Show is cool and entertaining, I don’t mind Carlton doing drugs to cope. The Ashley shyt I’m just glad they keeping it to a minimum and not spamming it in our face.

This was fine as the little fan film it was nothing beyond that. Instead of saying do a more grounded take with smarter grounded scripted comedy like Curb, Arrested Development, or Atlanta; Will & company took the laziest route possible, hard drama.
This is just content for the sake of content and nobody will be talking about this show in 5 years.

I think it's weird how fukking obnoxious Carlton is, but I haven't watched the OG in years. And uncle phil isn't really "crooked." He is dealing with more realistic situations and everything is not black and white. As for Ashley being gay, yeah that came out of nowhere. Realistically, even married women are not straightforward with rejection like that and many like the attention. A lot of women will play along with you flirting with them, even if they aren't interested, so again, it's more realistic.
The show has 7 episodes out and rather than watch one and form their own opinion they'd rather complain out of ignorance.
If it doesn't interest you go about your business and pay it no mind.
We have a thread in The Film Room and almost everyone seems to be enjoying it. I haven't spoken to anyone offline who has seen it and didn't like it.
The new Uncle Phil isn’t a “crooked” politician. He pulled some strings to get Will out of jail but thats pretty much it. He’s still honorable and he’s still a good man with noble intentions.
Also they didn’t speak on the positive aspects of Will, Geoffrey, Hilary, Lisa, or Jazz.
The old Fresh Prince was a SITCOM. This new interpretation is a DRAMA. Meaning that there has to be conflict within the main characters lives, long standing, character arching CONFLICT. Which is why Michael Ealy is setting up CONFLICT between Uncle Phil/Aunt Viv. Which is Carlton’s drug issues are setting up CONFLICT between he and Will. And so on and so forth

But it is a new show right? Yes its based off the fresh prince but its a entirely new show...if it was the original then we would be watching the 7th season.
I get it that the old show is attached to memories but the new wonder years show isn't a continuation of the original show just like "Cosby" wasn't a continuation of "The Cosby Show"...they just received inspiration from it

Kid leaves Philly due to trouble and moves to his relatives home in Bel Air trying to fit in.
Its literally the same concept as the sitcom.
