Questlove once spoke on this and how this frustrated Thought to the core. In his heart he know he is an elite MC and want that same hood love and acclaim like a Sigel, Free, Meek but is always looked at like as neo-soul rapper. I feel he is most def the most underated and overlooked MC (hell outside Kweli not even his own crew (com,Mos,etc.) put him their albums and they were all over Roots albums) but if he would've dropped that solo back round '01-02 ish then i feel he would've gotten his much needed props. And maybe step out from under the roots production for a minute. Cause know matter how much of a beast he is it's always gonna be look at as a collective piece as the roots not oh Black Thought snapped on such and such album (outside of hip-hop heads)
Personally he's in my top 5 behind 3Stacks, Nas, and Redman.
i got a compilation of black thought tracks that he was either featured on or tracks that didnt make it onto roots albums. shyt is status. the original version of thought @ work is one of my favorite black thought tracks.
