When people criticize thot rap people bring up rappers that only talk about selling dope but one subject is a WAY more palatable and appealing subject to box yourself into than sex. Straight men aren't gonna be trying to recite your lyrics (unless they aren't as straight as the think
) and so they only real care about you for your looks and with porn so readily available they can easily replace you anyway.
So only trashy girls and hood booger gonna be really rocking with you. Drug dealing gangsta shyt taps into a fascination with gangs and violence that knows all genders, and even the general hustling message is instantly relatable and aspirational (probably why Cardi B and Nicki are the most successful of them, cuz they can tap into that other stuff especially Cardi); plus America is beholden to masculinity whether you're a male or female and gangsta rap is the ultimate masculine power fantasy
Like even for rappers that get just as crass and and vivid with the sex talk as thot rappers, sex talk is a small part of their shyt. And it's usually just a supporting argument of their "I'm cool as fukk" thesis, which again a wide range of people can rock with.
