Roman had as close to a 100% approval rating as a non internet darling ever had when he was in The Shield. Almost everybody agreed he had next after Cena and no one had any issue with it.It's hitting me watching this interview, that for years the majority of the internet not only thought that WWE was wrong for pushing Roman as the top guy over Daniel Bryan or CM Punk or whoever, but that they were obviously stupid for doing so. And those same people will talk about whatever today with the same tone.
The problem came when Vince gave him a generic, corny and boring character as a bland babyface and worse yet, he rushed his push by 1-2 years. Reigns didn't need to be pushed as he was during 2014-2015 and that dissolved all the good will and vibes fans had towards him.
Vince made shyt worse by making Reigns meander for 9 months of the year with feuds no one gave a shyt and Roman ate Ls for no good reason. And then WM season would come around and he'd be the main player regardless of how bland the previous 9 months were. It wasn't until the Braun feud that Roman finally had a rivalry worth a fukk and sadly, WWE didn't much to capitalize on that momentum.
The sad part is that during those years, Reigns still had a ton of good/very good/great matches but a lot people didn't give a shyt because they resented him by proxy, as they hated the booking of WWE as whole and he represented "everything that was wrong" about the company.
