So you comparing 82 games season 32 teams to MLS soccer 35 games season to 19 teams. If the NBA drop some their small market teams with low attendance that they would jump back over MLS.
check the attendance and TV rating of both leagues during the playoffs.

It depends on how much TV you watch. If you don't watch a lot of TV, it doesn't seem like there's any promotion going on. If you watch NBC shows, you see a lot of commercials and morning shows promoting it.
