I think teams try to avoid this because GM's are either afraid of hurting guys' feelings or afraid that in negotiating a deal, they'll insist on an early option clause. What Hield wants I guess is more than what he could get from another team I believe.

So is paying Hield and Fox. I get Divac is hesitant to be pot committed to an unproven team, but that's what happens in the NBA when you rebuild for years.

If he has a similar season to the last he will probably get over 100 million from teams like Toronto or Miami that will have big money of their books. I guess it's wise to see two years of consistent performance before handing out a contract, but they are already negotiating wit him so they can't backtrack now.
