I appreciate the effort to reset the deck a bit and at least turn the attention from Cena and the fans to Cena and Cody. After 2 weeks of shytting on the fans and giving nothing of substance to Cody, it was a welcome change.
I actually think not changing look and attire is a stroke of genius. Being a very literal heel version of himself, squeaky clean and principaled and rather than using that to fight and "never give up", using that same approach to not stoop to his opponents level, is a great take on the approach.
If I had any say, I would've loved to see the feud lean more in an Alonzo from Training Day, Matt Dillon in Crash type. The disillusioned vet, talking down to Cody, for being idealistic because he's been in his spot, just wait a little longer, "you think you know who you really are, just give it time" type of approach to the character. Still condescending , but centered on Cody/Cena and not the fans. Gives a good layer for the heel character and has the capacity to be redeemable when the chance presents itself so he can inevitably go face; a Cena face now over the next few months will seem weird/forced after spending so much time shytting on the fans.
Got a few more weeks and apparently no more Cena appearances, so very curious how this all goes moving forward.
