I do believe that the dumber you are the more easily you are to fight for causes, and say things, that invariably cause you more harm than good. All of my readings in history only support that people who have some form of intellect, know what is happening to them, can understand it, and will always try to fight against it. It is the natural instinct for an animal to evade danger, or fight, when physical harm (or another predator) is facing it.
In the human realm of the animal kingdom, the smarter individuals recognize how certain policies/bills/laws, codes (from simple words, numbers, etc...), stereotypes, and philosophies, can impact their lives given the environment. Dumb individuals are more likely to not realize how it impacts their lives.
Given that, I disagree with the, "Everyone is entitled to their opinion" mantra. A person too dumb to even have an opinion, should never speak or be given a platform to speak. Only a rational being should have the right to free speech. And what constitutes a rational being is his/her operating not solely on primal instincts like the animal, rather moral and intellectual duty as Kant put it in the Metaphysics of Morals. I don't agree with Kant on all of his views, but that one, I do agree with him on.
This guy, Byron, being able to speak on CNN is an immoral action and only shows that CNN was trotting him out to support their bigoted views. They just wanted a black person to say what they were thinking (one of the reasons why Don Lemon did his, "Are you offended?" skit, totally neglecting what that word meant or what that flag represents. It isn't something so mundane and arbitrary as "being offended"). White supremacy is immoral and not representative of a rational philosophy or outlook. Anyone upholding such views cannot be a rational person (no matter how smart they are) because they are allowing their baser-selves to take charge.
