It is essential, in every autopsy, to be as thorough as possible. They knew how he died but they needed to see exactly how the organ that was shot was effected, etc. And yes, I believe they do this to anyone who is having an internal examination. Google is your friend but books are even better.

They probably do, that was just a passing comment I was making. Why they still need to do an autopsy in the most obvious cases. Kinda weird to me.

you also have to remember that Pac was (barely) alive for almost a week after he got shot. I'm sure during that time they were removing bullets and operating on him
it's also important they determine the exact cause of death. in Pac's case it was "respiratory failure and cardiopulmonary arrest in connection with multiple gunshot wounds". if nothing else, this info is important for science, as maybe they can learn from it and help others better in the future
