Mexico allowed slavery in Texas which is the reason that escaped enslaved people in America had to run past the state to be free. During that time there were Mexican American slave holders. Check the “Guerrero Decree” and how American settlers in Texas responded to it. You can also look through Texas slave schedules and search for Hispanic last names.
