Since he's not black, I'm sure they'll get all psycho analytical and say he was actually a great guy, but the reason he did what he did was because his mother never hugged him enough.

The dude wasn't a bad shooter actually. If you look at the police car windshield you'll see the bullet holes are in a tight pattern. That's not easy to do in an actual gunfight, even at that range.
What did him in is that he didn't go for cover behind his own car, but I'm not surprised. He was shooting at a cop in broad daylight, time wasn't exactly on his side.
