I'm from the south side of Houston. 3rd Ward to be exact. I don't live in the Trey anymore but I still frequent some of the restaurants and businesses there. Couple of days ago I got to one of my favorite spots (Blodgett Chicken & Rice for those from the city who are in the know 😜 ) and this old head approaches me and asks can I get him a fish sandwich. I did so without hesitation. Dude never even attempted to ask for money. Just said he was howngry as hell. He had a cane and said he'd been hit by a car a little while back and he waiting for the driver's insurance to pay him. Then another lady walks in, she asks me to buy her something too. I didn't even sweat it. I was already buying some food to take home to the fam. Without all of our food together it was only 35 bucks.

I got to talking to the old head. He was in his early 70's and he was able to go tit for tat talking about the neighborhood. That shyt made my day and reminiscing about the hood was worth the 8 or 9 bucks his food costed. Plus he work at one of the hood clubs watching the parking lot. So now I got an in there too. I know my ride won't be messed with.

In that case, all countries ain't shyt.

As "bad" as people think it is, you have people walking hundreds of miles partly through actual jungles to get here.

I feel for the destitute, but this is the place to be to rise up.

You're a better person than me, OP. Only thing I've ever given a homeless beggar was a couple of gas station corn dogs after the dude asked me for money because he was hungry. I told him I didn't have any cash on me, so I bought him the corn dogs. The mf actually had the nerve to grumble and look disappointed when I gave him the food. As I was leaving the parking lot, I saw the ungrateful fakkit throw the corn dogs on the ground. Ever since then, I don't give those mfs shyt. Most of them will use that money for booze or drugs. That's a fact.

a corn dog isn’t exactly appetizing. being homeless doesn’t mean you’ll just consume anything.

It’s always a good idea to give when you can. But be careful and watchful of your surroundings. As you’re looking down in your wallet for change , you can get sucker punched.
