A 4.0 at a public school is still a 4.0 The bell curve and good behavior isn't going to make an average student into an exemplary one at a public school or turn a turd into gold at one either. A student still has to do tests and turn in papers to get a 4.0 , At any one time only small number of students out of thousands achieve a 4.0 at a public school so the self-selected nature of the achievement implies that Kaepernick is very smart. Moreover he scored 30+ on the Wonderlic which is external validity for how smart he is. Interestingly enough Gabbert also achieved a 4.0 and wrote a 43 Wonderlic.

I think the upper percentage of any public school are as almost as smart (or as smart) as the average Harvard student (though not as smart as above average or elite Harvard students, since they're bonafide geniuses most likely).
