I’m not one to defend the criminal element, but that quote doesn’t make sense.
Crips, Bloods, GDs, BDs, VLs, etc. weren’t even really active when the KKK was actively harming black people.
Like others have said, cops have definitely been killed by gang members and I’m sure that in the prisons they’ve gone to war with skinheads.
I’ve also told this story a few times about what my grandfather and his crew did back during Jim Crow:

I’ve told this story on here, I believe, but I can tell it again cause I’m damn proud of it.
My Grandfather was friends with a very famous black baseball player.
At one point this particular person was getting threats from the KKK, who wanted him and his family to evict their home.
So my Grandfather, who was really street connected, told the baseball player to leave his ranch and lay up at a nice hotel.
My Grandfather then went to his ranch with 30 or so goons and camped out around the perimeter until the KKK came through.
They came out from the bushes and ambushed the klan and killed all of them.
In my grandfathers own words “we had those crackers in the nearby towns so scared they wouldn’t even go to a linen sale because they didn’t wanna be seen near any sheets after what we did to those devils.”

Most White folks don’t live in low income Black neighborhoods; therefore, they are not exposed to that criminal element.
Just like very few Black folks live in low income White communities either so Black folks aren’t exposed to that White criminal element.
Most Black and White folks work, go school, restaurants, and recreational activities together then go back home to their still mostly segregated communities far removed from one another.
