They need to slap on some disclaimers with a conversation around cultural context and keep it pushing.

It feels somewhat silly to compare editing out gotdamn cartoons to real life struggles and education

BUT the point is there. .. to erase, revise and make pretend things in history weren’t actually the way they were is at the root of a LOT of our current social issues.

Exactly. Repped

A long time ago, I was thinking about how the hell they got away with the panty raid, but then I realized the joke isn't that SpongeBob and Patrick are stealing women's underwear. The joke is that they're so lame, the wildest thing they can think of doing is stealing an old lady's underwear and taking pride in it. :mjlol:

And this still isn't as ridiculous as The Simpsons banning the Michael Jackson episode because of allegations from lying pieces of shyt. :mjlol:

I agree. Kids are extremely impressionable and cartoons are solely responsible for the actions they take.

To this day I'm still trying to murder and eat every roadrunner I see in person.
I and millions of other kids worldwide tried anime/ninja fighting and wrestling moves as kids on other children :francis:
If you're older than 21 you should remember this being a fairly substantial concern for parents from the 80s into the mid-2000s.
Meanwhile cartoons about gay relationships and demonic alchemy is fine and dandy.
People being gay on a television show is different than depicting anthropomorphic sea creatures stealing women's underwear.

The fact that posters take this shyt seriously is hilarious. All the shyt going on in this country and y'all talk like the big problem is whether some corporation chooses to stop airing some old slightly sketchy episodes of a children's show they own.

"Cancel culture" has plenty of excesses, but anyone who devotes any of their time to worrying about it when we have judicial injustice, militarized police, wealth inequality, declining lifespans, collapsing ecosystems, government corruption, and attacks on voting rights is either a goofball or an agent.

Cracks me up that people on this forum actually say, "If you stop showing books/cartoons with offensive stereotypes to children then you're erasing history!" but then turn around and go wild whenever they see anything gay in media.

Apparently they think the offensive stereotypes are real but gay people aren't. :skip:

Whenever these threads pop up up, i'm left wondering "exactly who in the fukk is 'THEY' ?"
"They" is corporate executives choosing to withhold their own shyt. There's no secret cabal of book burners going around pulling all this shyt off the shelves.

They've seen three years of companies getting taken to task for being full of bullshyt on racial issues, and are deciding to be proactive and are starting to pull books and episodes that they would never choose to air today.

The funny part is, this forum is FULL of posters calling companies to task for shyt like, "Look at that TV show that aired a white woman doing black dances, they should be ashamed of themselves!" or "Look at that person who told a joke with a racial stereotype/slur, they should be canceled!", but when a corporation decides on their own to pull some old shyt off the shelves, they're acting offended over the idea.

Being a fake militant and obediently obeying conservative narratives simultaneously leads to some whiplash. :mjlol:
