The director Shinichiro Watanabe loves black culture clearly, and loves blending cultures when he makes a show. His other shows are Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo. Bebop's a sci-fi noir western in space juxtaposed with dope jazz and blues music, there's even an episode in homage to blaxploitation films

Samurai Champloo blends the samurai of Japan's edo period in the past with hip-hop and a soundtrack produced by the gawd Nujabes one of the main characters even infuses breakdancing into his fighting style show was really influential in the rise of chillhop and lo-fi shyt people are all into now tbh
